Sam Bird became Formula E’s second ever winner, the Briton dominating round two of the all-electric series on the Putrajaya street circuit in Malaysia.

Bird first took the lead on lap four, barging past pole-sitter Oriol Servia when the race was restarted following a lap-one safety car casued by a collision between Katherine Legge and Michela Cerruti.

Once in front Bird immediately gapped the field, his lead ballooning to nearly three seconds within two laps.

And his pace didn’t come at the expense of efficiency either; Bird was the last of the drivers to make his car swap, pitting for a fresh set of wheels on lap 19.

Putrajaya ePrix post-race penalties

Venturi’s Nick Heidfeld has been excluded from the Putrajaya ePrix results after his pit stop car change was adjudged to have taken place outside of the permitted area.

His exclusion means his 19th-place finish cannot be counted as a dropped result at the end of the season.

Other penalties include the Trulli team being fined 5000 Euros for releasing Michela Cerruti from the pit in practice with one of the wheel nuts not having been properly tightened.

Katherine Legge will start with a 10-place grid penalty at her next race for Amlin Aguri as the team had to change the RESS device on her car. Legge was one of a number of drivers to pick up a drive-through penalty in the race. The others included Franck Montagny and Jarno Trulli.
